The Three Keys were Josh Blinder, Erik Cohen, and myself because, well, it looked like we were always playing in three different keys. It didn’t sound that way usually, or the audiences would have rebelled. Josh had his autoharps tuned to something usually a bit off from his key labels. Erik was playing pretty straight, and I was often playing guitar with a capo. Using a capo lets you think you are playing familiar chords, but you are actually playing in another key. A lot of covers, but also a few nice originals by Josh and Erik made up our playlists. Most of the concerts were for events related to the Northern Virginia Ethical Society–morning platforms, house concerts, and several weddings of friends.
Here are two oringals of Josh’s we were able to record (thanks Frank!). I still try to practice the GuilfordĀ lick just in case, as one says, the band gets back together.
Andrea Brown is the more uptempo. It is still in need of a guitar solo that I didn’t provide at the time. Frank recorded one for fun, but I do not seem to have a copy of that version. These are from more than a decade ago, but the tunes haven’t aged at all.
Please enjoy them, and thanks to Erik and Josh for the great times, and for me being able to talk about the “gigs” I used to play.
